Los Angeles: This tuner adaptation of Lee David Zlotoff’s Oscar-nominated 1996 indie film "The Spitfire Grill" had its 2001 Off Broadway preem short-circuited by the aftermath of 9/11. It’s hard to imagine it would have had legs even if given a better chance. For the most part, the songs of James Valcq (music) and Fred Alley (lyrics) are simplistic and forgettable, while Valcq and Alley are guilty of flatlining the quirky plot that made Zlotoff’s film so memorable.
